Making Hockey Accessible for our Children:

We know that hockey is an expensive sport to play, here at Upper Hutt Hockey Club we work really hard to fundraise etc. to help keep costs down for all our players. Hockey is a great sport for all ages but the skills learnt through hockey is especailly beneficial for young peoples development.

  • Skills like:
  •      - Passion
  •      - Confidence
  •      - Persistence
  •      - Good communication
  • There is great news however, Activation, the sport and active recreation team at Upper Hutt City Council, has a role to support and develop Schools, Clubs and Active Recreation groups in the Upper Hutt Community.
    • Activation recognises that:

 - Children want to play sport, and those that are often missing out reside in families who cannot afford for their children to participate.

    • - Children love playing sport and some are now being denied that pleasure through no fault of their own.

    •  - There are significant health and learning benefits to children by being more physically active and sport provides an important avenue in this regard.
  • So because they see the importance of having children involced in sport, Activation have a 'Sporting Chance' fund to help young people from financially disadvantaged families to participate in their chosen sporting activities.

Manager Memorable Mentions

P3  Woman: TBA

R1  Woman (now P3.2 Woman!)One huge memorable mention this week - WINNERS! What an achievement - still pinching ourselves :) Can't go past mentioning the amazing support from club members, family and friends - fair to say it was pretty stressful for everyone involved but we got there - holy moly it was a nailbiter!

R3  Woman: Our last game of the season played at our wonderful home ground against Kapiti, a massive thank you to Lea Watt who stepped up and filled in for us (hope you are feeling ok).  We came away with a 1-0 victory which made us end up 3rd place in the grade!  Wonderful season with wonderful ladies.  Bring on our celebrations.

P3 Men TBA

R1 Men: We had not won a game all competition and it came down to this last game to determine if we stayed in R1 all went down. Its hard to believe it was a wooden spoon game it felt more like a final to us, at full time we were locked up at 2 all and went into extra time where we scored just a few minutes in, boom!!! First win of the competition and get to start again in R1 next year, everyone played well we left everything out there on the field. Thanks to all the supporters who were there as well, I'm sure the noise from the side line is what kept us going!

R3 MenNothing like going out in style in the last game of the season with a 4 – 1 win against Karori 4. Being 1 – nil down and under pressure during most of the first half, a swing in momentum levelled the score at half time.

Communication and energy in the second half saw us gain full ascendency with a sting of one-two passing around the opposition leading to two more goals. The most memorable moment was the grin on one players face when he scored the final goal of the day knowing he’d caught his team mate as top goal scorer for R3M (yes you can wait until prize giving to know who I’m talking about). See you all there.

Manager Memorable Mentions

P3  Woman: Everyone played out of their skins on Saturday!!   We played with patience and composure and moved the ball around .  It really was a great team effort with so many MMM to choose from this week.  This week it goes to Emma who played out of her skin.

R1  Woman: Just a friendly game this weekend and with a few people out it was great that we were straight through to the final, we started with Island Bay congratulating our girls for making the final with applause while they were warming up.  A fabulous gesture by another club. MMM especially to Kelly and Katie who stepped in to help us on the day.

R3  Woman: Well it was an enormous struggle to get a team together with secondary tournament and fathers day taking precedent on the day! However with our starred players we scraped together 11 and went on our way to Kapiti, we smashed them 4-0, always a great team to play and a massive thank you to Alice, Tiari (even if you don't know how old you are) and Cat G for stepping in and letting me put you in positions that you don't normally play!

P3 Men TBA

R1 Men: TBA

R3 MenWith only 11 players, it was always going to be a tough game against the 2nd ranked team in the competition. While losing 1 – 4, the team played a high tempo passing and defensive game that as a team, we were very happy with. The score certainly didn’t reflect the closeness of the game given we gave away two easy goals. The best moment was the accolades Judah Plester received from the opposition for stepping out to pressure the ball carrier before diving right and backwards to cover the two opposition players on the post who thought a goal was a certainty. Well done Judah!

P3  Woman: I think we put too much pressure on ourselves during the match and ended up playing very flat.  No one seemed to fire during the game.   Some very good learnings to take into our next game and then hopefully the final. MMM goes to Sandy for almost scoring a goal from bring the ball all the way from the back.

R1  Woman: Woop Woop, the R1 girls have done us proud and played their way straight into the final!  All the hard work is paying off.
Awesome job by Cat Gooding getting our only goal from a stroke! (Andrew what a teacher!)

R3  Woman: Great game in sunny Upper Hutt ending in a 2 all draw with goals to Sian and the first goal of the season For Jessica.

P3 Men TBA

R1 Men: Very close game almost a copy and paste from when we played them last time, unfortunately just like last time though we lost 2-1 with only a few minutes remaining!

P3  Woman: Another great game this week.  We moved the ball around a lot and utilised our space.  Great to see the forwards moving around at the top.  Awesome defence too.  MMM goes to Ari this week for all her awesome running.

R1  Woman: A great double-figure scoreline for the R1 women this week - 10-2!  Memorable mention this week is too hard to pick one person so it's a team one - well played by everyone to get the result we wanted so that we finished the competition round in second place!  Very proud of all the team ... even if there's one player that needed help untying her trackpants ..... don't double knot Tiari!

R3  Woman: TBA

P3 Men Sam Wyllie for P2 Men for two reasons. Not requiring a team to score a 3/4 of the field goal with a brilliant finishing. Also for ending the game looking like a victim of a Mike Tyson ear bite victim

R1 Men: I wasn't around this weekend but heard with only 11 players everyone played well though we ended up loosing 6-3, good practice for the important games coming up next week, even if its just trying to stay in the grade!

R3 Men This was a match that we needed to win to confirm a place in the semi finals. We achieved this with an emphatic 10-1 victory. A great team performance across the field which included two hat-tricks, however the moment of the match was the outstanding strike from Matt Rollinson.  He received the ball just inside the left of the D and he smashed it into the top right corner of the net. They don’t come very often for our left half, but this one was worth the wait.

It was awesome to see you playing with such intensity, working really hard on the basics and shutting their play down. Great job. Manager Memorable Mentions

P3  Woman: Great game this week and good to have a full team for the first time in a while.  Everyone played really well and kept their cool when the opposition started mouthing off to the umpires.  MMM goes to Grace this week for a great game coming back from holiday.

R1  Woman:  Great game today by the R1 ladies. Good fight in the challenging conditions for a draw in a top of the table clash.  Memorable mention to super sub Katie for stepping up once again.  Unfortunately black headband lady (according to Tiari), aka Julie, needed to come off....why?...smashed in hand (broken)...rest of the game at after hours. We will beat them next time!!

A big shout out to Karen Gooding for taking Julie to the doctors- thank you :)

R3  Woman: A 2-0 win over Kapiti and a great shared lunch afterwards.  Manager’s Mention goes to Jess who did three great intercepts – pity she didn’t have her stick in front!

P3 Men P2 Men kept a clean sheet this week thanks to some solid defending by the fullbacks and outside halves - Scott Leggett, Jake Hamlin, Brenden Moen and Dave Timbs. This lead to another bonus point for the team who now sit comfortably atop of the P3 table.

R1 Men: Another frustrating game we were right in the game come half time (2-2) but obviously forgot to turn around after and the score blew out by the end. Great individual goal from Blair late in the first half.

R3 Men The game is not over until it’s over. At 3 – nil down after 15 minutes I was starting to think this proverb was false but we eventually settled into the game and with hard graft, began to change the momentum. We scored a goal before half time and sensed Karori’s initial domination had ended. The second half was mostly ours and with 7 minutes left on the clock, we equalised at 3 all which would have been a good result. It’s funny how a defensive mind-set can give momentum away and with 2 minutes left, Karori went one ahead, winning the game 4 – 3. That sinking feeling with two minutes left isn’t pleasant but part of the game we enjoy. We’re already looking forward to next week!

Wellington Airport Regional Community Awards 2017

Every year, Wellington International airport, Wellington Community Trust, and the Upper Hutt City Council come together to recognise the work carried out by community groups in the wider Wellington Region. The focus of the awards is to celebrate volunteers for their valuable contribution to their local communities.

In 2017, the Upper Hutt Hockey Club were nominated under the category of "Sport & Leisure", a category which recognises local clubs who have increased community participation and enjoyment in physical sport, leisure activities and/or recreational pursuits. In the case of our club, our nomination recognises the tremendous growth within the junior sector of Upper Hutt Hockey. In 2017 we have increased our player base by 17%. Whilst creating additional pressure upon our volunteer coaches and managers, this growth means that many new children are playing the game that Upper Hutt Club members have enjoyed since its inception in 1970.

Whilst not victorious on the awards night, we are very proud to be 100% governed by volunteers who give their time and energy to constantly grow and develop Hockey in Upper Hutt. We thank all members of the club who continue to support our vision of becoming the hockey club of choice within the Wellington region for both young and old.

P3  Woman: Yet another game that was not our best but still managed to get the win thanks to some great patience in the goal circle.  Second half was much better than the first.  MMM goes to Anastasia (Bob) who was getting some great ball off the opposition with some mongrel back tackling.

R1  Woman:  A great result from the R1 women this week, and a few memorable mentions from the game - a hat trick for Tiari being one of them.  But two particular people to mention this week - firstly to Emilee - due to people away she had to play pretty much the whole game in a position she doesn't particularly like, but she did it without complaint and did a fantastic job of it too!  And secondly a huge thank you to Katie Tortoise who was our 'emergency' sub but ended up playing most of the game (which was straight after her own game!)  Good thing she's fit ;)  And lastly - a big "get well soon" to Tavira after a knock to the head during the game.

R3  Woman: A 2-0 win against our arch-nemesis Harbour City.  Good to break our drought and get a win.  Manager’s Memorable Mention goes to the whole team with great talking, passing and some great break away runs!

P3 Men TBA

R1 Men: We all played well and went up one nil early in the second half, unfortunately though like most of our season Northern came back with two goals, the last one with about a minute to go. We still hold on to hope that we can get our first win in the competition soon!

R3 MenHaving started with only nine players last week, the passing game we developed against Karori was fresh in our minds as we took on YW Petone. Passing, calling and running off the ball all led to a 4 –nil win at the end of the game. Mid game, the opposition captain commented (with an element of surprise) that Upper Hutt was playing very well and I explained to him the reason. Good goals to Rob Hamlin (2) and David Marinan with the best from Bryan Bagnall playing what looked like a cover drive high into the net.

Game report for P1 Boys -  What a cracker of a game this weekend boys.. everyone played with focus and intensity. 11-1 win. It was really great to see boys working together and especially the brother duo in the circle. Special mention to Marco, who not only had an outstanding game, scored a great goal, but for handing a goal opportunity to his brother. Great to see the boys trying new things.

Manager Memorable Mentions

P3  Woman: Not the best game this week but we managed to keep pushing through to come away with the win. A bit tricky to self manage our subs but we got through. Some good teamwork and a keep going attitude. Thanks to Lisa for playing in goal.  We warmed you up for your game.

R1  Woman: Excellent game from the ladies this week.  Some great team work through out and awesome patience which meant we game away with the win 2 minutes before full time!  Some very intense stressful moments on the sideline from the fill in coach. Thanks to Chloe for letting Mum play on your birthday.

(** BIG thanks to Jane for looking after us this weekend)

R3  WomanMangers Memorable Mention goes to Sally who came back after six weeks off and had four quick goal attempts in the first 10 minutes of the game - none got in but it is great to have her (and her energy) back!

P2 MenMemorable mention goes to Ben Clegg this week for P2 men. Absolute stunning goal and slayed the shot from the top of the circle past the keeper for the corner.

R1 MenWe had no subs this week, I was one of the problems relaxing on a beach in Manly! Though with no subs the guys were Nil all at half time, unfortunately in the second half having no subs started to show and we ended up loosing three nil, Casey tells me everyone played really well though and the final score is not a reflection of the game.

R3 MenIt’s never easy starting with nine players but given you can’t outrun the opposition, quick passing of the ball is the only option. We dominated the first half this way as our late players slowly turned up. This translated into our first goal where 5 passes were neatly executed before Rob Hamlin slapped a ball high into the net. The 2nd half was a reverse of the first. Karori began passing around us and we struggled to stem the flow, losing 2 – 1 late in the game.

Manager Memorable Mentions

P3  Woman: First game of the season playing out at Elsdon and the weather didn't disappoint as it was a typical freezing cold and wet game!  Came away with a good win.  Big shout out to Catherine for playing in goal for us.  Frog owes you one for that stroke.  MM goes to Heidi this week who was unable to play as she got laundry detergent in her eye on Friday night.  Who does laundry on a Friday night!!!  Hope it's getting better!!!

R1  WomanAfter a slow start the R1 girls kicked in to action in the second half winning 5-1!  Hard not to mention Alice's two great goals, but even harder not to mention the hard work, determination and fight shown by Emilee this week - she didn't give up and attacked the ball like demon!  Great work Em - and great work team!

R3  Woman: TBA

P2 Men TBA

R1 Men: Nothing memorable to mention I'm afraid going down 6-0 to Victoria, you would have thought we went into the game with a tactic not to mark or tackle, we can confirm this does not work don't try it!!

R3 MenMemorable Moment: The R3M game against Kapiti on Sunday was a see-saw affair with a 2-0 lead to Kapiti clawed back by 1 goal at half time. Our momentum continued into the 2nd half where excellent passing between Harrison Watt and Bryan Bagnall resulted in the goalie being easily circumvented and U/Hutt leading for the first time. Unfortunately we rested on our laurels for a period and despite scoring another goal and leading 4-3 towards the end of the game, yielded yet another goal late in the game.

P3  Woman: TBA

R1  WomanMuch improved team performance this week by the R1 ladies, was funny as we had a couple of double up of names on the field so we had Alice on Alice and T on T was a bit confusing from the sideline but it is not hard to confuse us to be honest! Good to see the girls changing it up and using the lifted ball more and more and the forwards running awesome lines to create a lot of chances.

R3  Woman: We are getting better and better - with only 4 teams in our grade we get to play the same teams often - so we’re getting closer to this team.  MM this week goes to Sidney with some flying tackles and great runs - keep it up.

P2 Men A 2 - 1 well deserved win for the P3 men was learnt despite playing the final 8 minutes with 9 players. Amazing how team could dig deep when desperate.

R1 Men: We played Harbour City on Sunday and unfortunately ended up losing 5-2 after been up 2-1, Craig has been trying all season to get one of his drag flicks in the goal from a PC and finally he got one this time around!

P2 Men TBA

R1 MenWell I am down in Christchurch watching my son play in the U18 tournament but I have heard we narrowly lost to the Indians 3-2, which would be a good effort since we lost to them last time 8-1! Wel done guys, looks like I will be struggling to make the team next week!

R3 MenThere was plenty happening in a tough game for us today. We started 1 player short, ended with 2 short after a hamstring blew and halfway through the 2nd half we were down to 8 for 5 minutes when we had a head wound to deal to. There was a bit of niggle, a stroke, some determined defence and plenty of running. The bright spot was a great diving finish by Rob to get our only goal.

P3  WomanFirst loss for this round. 4-0. Felt better on the field than the last few games.  Some really good periods of play but just could get the ball in the goal.  MMM goes to Grace for her attempt at a reverse hit but she ended up eating the turf instead

R1  Woman:  So many things to mention about the Reserve 1 Women's game today!  First ... can't let Karey get away with her big comment today "are we reserve 2 or reserve 3?" .... DOH!  But good work on the tweets today Kez. Awesome overhead by DJ to start off the second half - was a planned move that didn't quite come off but the overhead was great!!  And great to see the team coming up with new initiatives. And finally can't have a 9 nil win without a couple of hat-tricks - great work Tiari and Alice!  All in all a great team game where everyone worked hard!

R3  Woman: A hard fought win trying to make sure we didn't let the Club down in the day. Managers Memorable Mention  to all the goalies on the day and everyone who came along and made it a great day.

P2 Men TBA

R1 Men: Well we drew this week against Victoria, it feels a little like winning though where not sure what that feels like. If it wasn't for our goalie Thomas it would have been another loss and I'm not sure what I would talk about this week as I can't mention the rugby this time can I!

R3 MenKapiti came out strongly and had us 2 nil down within 10 minutes, but after a series of PCs we managed to pull one back with a nice strike from Harrison. Another goal later in the half had us back on level terms at half time. With a stronger performance in the second half we pulled away with a couple of goals, but conceded one more late on. A hard fought victory in front of a good home crowd.

What a great Club Weekend! We thank all those who helped out and to our supporters. A big shout out to all the clubs we played and thank you for coming to have a drink and nibbles after the game.

Manager Memorable Mentions

P3  Woman: Quite a defensive same for us on Saturday but a couple of great goals from the team.  MMM goes to the birthday girl Emma who had a great game.

R1  Woman: Another hard-fought game by the R1 Women in pretty challenging conditions - fair to say the new turf in Elsdon is quite different to play on to what we're used to, not helped by the cold southerly that we all know and love at Elsdon.  Unfortunately we couldn't pull of a win - but we were so close!  Memorable mention to Karey for having the loudest voice (ha ha!), but also to our Inside Forwards this week (DJ, Tavira, Cat B and Tammy) - all of them did their job exceptionally well, driving forward but also being that link to get the ball up to the forwards.

R3  Woman: Managers Memrable Mention - our lesson for today was "you're not allowed to kick the ball" in hockey. Apart from that - well done ladies for a solid defence that held out a formidable opponent with no subs!!  What a team!  Thanks to Kerry for his reffing too!

P2 Men TBA

R1 Men: Well the hockey was not much to remember going down 7-2 against Kapiti. For a while I thought we had a new player in the team, shaved head guy who ran around all day and played well, later though I found out it was just Cameron sporting a new look after a night of drinking!

R3 MenTo quote our esteemed All Black captains of the past “it was a game of two halves and full credit to the opposition” We won the first half wrestling control of the game off Karori 3 and went into halftime 1 nil up with a surperb finish from David Marinan. The second half proved more difficult with the younger Karori legs wearing us down and eventually putting three goals away to finish us off.

Then we made it really hard work for ourselves, as we missed heaps of shots on goal. A questionable call giving the opposition a stroke, meant a 2-2 draw. It was a tough environment out there today boys, so well done for holding your heads high. PoD was Sam, the great tackling man!

P3  Woman: Very scrappy game but we still managed to put some goals away to come away with the win.  MM this week goes to the sister act of Ari and Tiari. For sisters who haven't really played together much their connection was spot on.  Beautiful gift goal from the older sister to the younger sister.  Thanks Tiari for filling in for us.

R1  WomanOur memorable mention today: Fantastic 10-1 win today by the R1 women - wasn't the prettiest game but a great result.  Great to see our strikers running much better lines and doing the off the ball work.  Keep up the good work!

R3  WomanManagers Memorable Mention goes to Nicky Wilton who managed to score the only goal in the whole game – just that it was for the other team

P2 Men Scott Leggett seemed to have time on his hands all game. Great movement into space and always holding the ball well.

R1 MenWell I didn't actually play I was up in Rotorua watching the Maoris/Lions game, not a great result for the Maori's and it took for ever to get a beer! Oh right the hockey I did hear that we were up two nil at half time and went on to loose four nil! Complete reversal from last week, hopefully next week we can play well in both half's!

R3 Men Memorable moment: Bryan Bagnall scoring in the first minute of the game after calling for and receiving the perfect through ball at full sprint. Awesome! Bryan scored a hat trick in the game.

Game report for P1 Boys - Wow boys, what a great result. A 9-0 win!! With a very slow start, lots of scrambling early on, it looked like a new team in the second half! Boy did we stride ahead. Well done to the midfielders and strikers this week, plenty of attacking opportunities, with a hat trick from Chris and Grayson! Excellent stuff. Congrats to Rhone our PoD for an outstanding game...working really hard on defence and great tackling…well done. Marco also had a brilliant game, great work.

Game report for the Mighty Maroons - Mighty Maroons versus Hutt 2. 3-2 win. Hard fought game, great game with good passing and great structure. Player of thee Day to Roscoe. Awesome game, always there, with hard solid tackling and great passing and team work!!!

Game report for the Silverstix -  Silverstix vs Hutt2 Won 8-4. We ended up having a friendly game as Hutt were short of players so we won by default.  There was some good passing and trapping by Silverstix which allowed us to score several good goals.  Player of the day Ryan Grant-Derepa for trapping the ball and looking where he was passing as well as doing some great tackles.

Manager Memorable Mentions

P3  Woman: Bit of a scrappy game but we were still able to come away with a convincing win.  One more goal and we would have had a bonus point.  MM this week goes to Debbie for her random goal from a long corner.

R1  Woman: Memorable mention goes to Danella and Becs this week for doing a lap of the field to move the goals off the sidelines just after the game started!  Seriously - a hard fought game this week with everyone gutsing it out to the end, unfortunately not our week but onwards to next week!

R3  Woman: TBA

P2 MenMemorable mention - Isaac Taylor-Boon single-handedly taking on the Indians team throughout the game. Constantly ready to attack and ever present when something looked like erupting.

R1 MenWe played Karori for what seems like the tenth time this season on the new turf in town, we found ourselves down four nil at half time. Though forgetting about the first half we won the second half one nil which was a much better performance from the team, if only the rules could be changed and only the goals in the second half count!

R3 MenMemorable moment: That sinking feeling late in the game at 2 all when, as second runner defending a PC, you don’t get to the layoff and turn to see your teammate on the post miss-trap the ball onto his feet. A hard fought game that we could have drawn slipped away with 7 minutes left despite the gallant effort of the goalie to stop the stroke and keep us in the game.

Game report for P1 Boys - Yahoo – what a great result today team! A win 2-0 against Indians. Boys worked really hard, tackled hard.. with some great breakaways from our strikers. Our midfield linked the team well - what a good effort. Player of the day Matthew was very composed in the defense line and transferring the ball out wide. Great stuff!

Game report for the Mighty Maroons - Mighty maroons versus Rata street. 6-2 win. Great game today with lots of movement and passing. Player of the day to both Jack and Corey, both scored hatricks

Game report for the Silverstix - Exciting game with lots of good passing and using the space.  Player of the Day Josh Timbs for great dribbling with the ball and driving into the circle.

Manager Memorable Mentions

P3  Woman: MM goes to Heidi and Lisa.  Heidi for the great save on the line and lisa for the hug afterwards for saving her butt while she came out towards the ball.

R1  WomanIt seems the R1 women play their best in the second half of the second half of a game! 4 nil win, and I think 3 of the 4 goals were scored in the last 20 minutes!  Special mention to Alice - first game back after being concussed a few weeks ago, great to see her not backing down and getting stuck in.  And Tiari - that elusive hat-trick will come - don't give up!!

R3  Woman: TBA

P2 MenMangers Memorable Mention – Hori playing in shoes closer to ice skates than turf shoes. Player of the day goes to Luke – great effort and improvement week on week!

R1 MenWe played Victoria in the weekend and unfortunately we lost 3-1, game was a lot closer than that though it could have easily been the other way around. Thanks again to Rhys for filling in for us; he may as well just be in the team now after another great game.

R3 MenWe had north of 6 shots at goal that went flying wide of the post as the strikers eyes lit up and boomed it. However the winner came after the wise head of Craig Vaurasi who, with only the keeper to beat, laid a perfect square ball past the keeper to an unmarked Bryan Bagnall to tap in. If only we had done that earlier!

Game report for P1 Boys - Perhaps it was the first goal that woke the boys up.. golly those first 15 mins they were snoozing and cruising.. Then wham we scored a goal and everyone got focused and played passing team game. A few rattled players in the opposition team meant we could set up a great structure and win 3-0. Yay!!

PoD went to Terence - well-deserved... he persistence paid off, as he carried the ball up the line and worked so hard getting on the post.. And scoring a great goal, and assisted another.

It is awesome to see the boys play with some intensity and real fight! That is what it takes to win a game. Well done boys, really proud of you.

Game report for the Mighty Maroons - Might Marrons lost 10-1 to Hutt. Player of the day – Quinn Gillies for being such a solid, strong player.

Team played well, kept structure and space. However think with the early morning wake-up seemed a bit asleep at times.

Game report for the Silverstix  - Some great dribbling and running with the ball by Meagan and Josh to score goals, 2 each.  Fast running game with lots of good passing and some good tackling too.  Well done team.

Manager Memorable Mentions

P3  Woman: MM goes to Frog (Nicky) for stepping in to play in goal when Ashley rolled her ankle during warm up!!  Great job Frog (insert Frog emoji),  you did awesome!!!

R1  WomanOur memorable mention this week....Great fight back by all the team this week coming back from 3-1 down to draw against Indians. Big ups to Karey for playing a pearler when actually feeling under the weather, and Tiari for her unselfish play up front setting up a lovely goal.

R3  Woman: Great game (think the cold is better than warm).  Three great team goals to the “Grays”.  Everyone stepped up to beat a team that beat us 5-1 last time. Manager’s Mention goes to Fiona Erasmussen who performed numerous tackles and intercepts and left the game with two grazed knees.

P2 MenSet pieces continue to be a shining light within the P2 mens side. Whether its from the drag flick specialist Nick Mellow or our talented deflectors in Isaac Taylor Boon, Ben Clegg, Hori Tai Albert or Sam Wylie our penalty corner is a potent force. Of the 17 goals scored this season - 12 have come from the penalty corner set play.

R1 MenWe drew 2-2 with Harbour City on Sunday, a great game which could have gone either way each team missed various chances, a draw was probably a fair result in the end. A big thanks to Blair's older brother Rhys for filling in for us, he showed a lot of maturity at the back and controlled the ball well, our goalie Thomas also played exceptionally well with some great saves.

Game report for P1 Boys - Phew is was freezing.. lessons learnt today was to wear thermals!!! Tough opposition with some dominant players. Team lost 5-2 to Karori. Some moments of brilliance, with some great shots on goal. Boys worked hard.. even though they couldn’t feel their fingers. Well done to Max our PoD who made some great saves and is moving confidently in the circle. Great defence by Sam, who was certainly bombarded with attackers.

Game report for the Mighty Maroons - We played against Eastern Hutt (was meant to be NaeNae). Player of the Day to Jack Tily.  "For new to game, and putting passing and moving into play. He did however get hurt, but got fixed up on the side line and got back out there." Special mention to Felix Fenton - for scoring a hatrick.

P3  Woman: MM goes to Ashley for some amazing saves in goal from Nin Roberts (ex Black Stick) shots.

R1  WomanBig ups to all the team today for putting in to play lots of different things we've talked about and practiced - there were things that were totally new and foreign but people gave it a go - especially the overheads!  Great to see the confidence building - keep up the good work.  And a big thanks and mention to Ashley for reffing us again - we really appreciate it!

R3  Woman The whole team played amazingly - incredible passing and support.  Mention goes to Katie who was a demon in the circle and set up some really great plays.

P2 MenTBA

R1 MenTBA

R3 MenThis week’s memorable moment: Rob Hamlin diving, doing a forward roll and ending up siting on the backboard wondering … a) how he got there! … and b) how he missed!

The lesson learned - Rather than wonder if the brilliant cross from Bryan Bagnall is going into the goal, hit it and make sure! As for the dive and forward roll, there’s nothing to learn from his execution of that manoeuvre  – trust me!

Both goals were scored off PC’s, impressive. Chris Coetzee our player of the day playing striker, was strong on both attack and defense, relentless!

Tawa’s first two goals were scored in the first 10 min, but after that, nothing could get passed Matthew and Sam at the back.. well done guys.

Also a special thank you to Casey O'Leary for doing a stella job at tweeting this game this weekend - check out our twitter feed for the game play updates! If anyone else would like to help us with this please get in touch.

R1  Woman:Memorable Mention this week has to go Alice - hit in the foot, then smacked in the head with the ball pretty much straight after - she came off of course with a growing egg on her head but first comment was "I'll be alright to go back on...." Ahhh - yeah, nah!  Take care Alice!

R3 MenThe weekend’s game came with great expectation. Our opposition had been having some big wins in the other pool and our aim was to keep their scoring as low as possible.

As expected their younger legs ran and passed around and through us until ‘us oldies’ figured out how to mitigate their strengths.

A memorable moment for me was early in the game when their striker, having beaten all except but our very last line of Defence, cracked the ball goalwards.

Judah our young keeper, ran out to meet him arms held high in the air as if to stop a raised ball, then instantly dropped to his right and deflected the shot at turf level well wide of the goal. From my view at half way, the speed and precision of Judah seeing, reacting and saving the shot was very impressive. He continued to save many more shots on goal and helped us keep Tawa to only four goals.

Manager Memorable Mentions

P3  Woman: Managers Memorable mention goes to Georgia Jennings for playing in a position she is not used to and doing a great job.

R1  Woman: A hard fought game by the R1 women but we sustained our first loss, everyone gave it their all but it just wouldn't go in the goal! Prior to the game the goalie got lost finding the stadium and one of the girls doing her hair in the mirror stepped back and started the handdryer and gave herself a fright lol! A special thank you to Ashley for coming into town so early to umpire for us.

R3  Woman TBA

R3 Men:Today I saw proof that practice makes perfect. Several times during the lead up to the season I saw Rob Hamlin and his son Jake practice smashing balls into the circle and glancing the ball to various parts of the net, both low and high; a difficult skill to master.

During the R3 men’s game, we found ourselves with a penalty just outside the circle. The penalty taken and hit outside the 23yd line, the ball was smashed back into the circle. Rob, at full stretch, tried to glance the ball to the top of the net … but only got sufficient purchase on the ball to wrong foot the keeper with the ball firmly crossing the line. Not a spectacular shot visually nor as good as the one’s I saw him do at practice, but very effective. It gave us a 3-2 win. Momentarily, I wondered what the R3 men could achieve if they practiced, beyond aches and strains that is!

R1  WomanAnother scorcher day for the R1 girls game against Island Bay - 4-3 win, and we scored 6 of the 7 goals - won't name names but two of our defenders executed a couple of awesome deflections ... in to our goal.  Thankfully a great team fight back and some awesome passing paid off for a win! Managers Memorable Mentions this week: Cat G for stepping up to take a stroke, Tiari for an outstanding run up the wing and in to the goal to score a lovely goal and to our fill-in goalie Catherine for some great saves

R3  Woman Managers Memorable Mention goes to the Scannell family. Sian always gives 110% and she really stepped up to play a ‘new’ position and to Kerry who umpires for us - hope people realise how wonderful it is for a Manager to have someone volunteering to umpire - for our grade it’s not always easy finding people and to have someone as good as Kerry is great - thanks Scannells!

P2 MenMicheal Van de Burg making the big call to step into striker position for the second penalty corner of the game. Neatly dragged the ball to the ramp provided by Sam Wylie for a well timed goal. 100% strike rate for this PC combo in 2017.

R3 MenPeter W cracking a shot from the top of the circle towards the top of the net only to have the outstretched hand of the goalie save it at the very last moment. The couple of years away from playing hockey haven’t faded his skills.
